Danny Simpson recently revealed a rift with his agent due to a botched move to Celtic, which soured after Neil Lennon abruptly terminated a trial arrangement just before its scheduled occurrence.

The former English Premier League-winning defender with Leicester City had made the decision to depart the Foxes upon the expiration of his contract. Brendan Rodgers, who had earlier departed Leicester, aided in arranging a trial with Celtic shortly after his exit from the club. However, with Lennon assuming the managerial role at Celtic, the trial arrangement was curtailed, and the club opted to sign Hatem Abd Elhamed instead. Consequently, Lennon deemed it impractical to proceed with the trial.

Although Simpson eventually secured a deal with Huddersfield in the Championship, the collapse of the Celtic move left him incensed. He admitted rejecting other offers in favor of joining Celtic but was left without a club for a period. This setback led to a fallout between Simpson and his agent.

Speaking on the Filthy Fellas podcast, Simpson expressed his frustration, stating, “It’s mad, that’s how it works sometimes. I fell out with my agent because something happened with Celtic. That was the one why I turned the other one down. Celtic was on the cards, it was on the table.”

Simpson had engaged in discussions with Neil Lennon and other key figures at Celtic, including Kolo Toure and Brendan Rodgers, regarding the potential move, emphasizing the allure of European football and the prospect of winning more trophies. Unfortunately, despite all groundwork laid out, the deal collapsed in the final stages, leaving Simpson disillusioned and leading to a strain in his relationship with his agent.
