Rangers have officially opened discussions with Besiktas in an effort to bring winger Vaclav Cerny back to Ibrox.
Manager Derek McInnes has already welcomed several new signings to Glasgow as the club prepares for a serious title challenge. While the early weeks of the transfer window focused primarily on strengthening the midfield and defense, the recruitment team is now prioritizing the attack.
Rumors of Cerny making a sensational return to the Light Blues have circulated recently, and chairman Andrew Cavenagh appears ready to finalize a deal. The Czech international is coming off a highly productive campaign in Turkey, proving he still has the quality to thrive at the highest level.
Opening Bids and Financial Realities
According to sports journalist Christian Vaquero, Rangers made the first move by submitting an initial offer of roughly £5.1 million (€6 million) for the forward. Besiktas promptly knocked back the proposal.
Despite the rejection, the 28-year-old winger is reportedly very keen on a return to Scotland. Cerny previously spent the 2024–25 season on loan at Ibrox, where he quickly became a fan favorite by registering 27 goal contributions across 52 appearances.
Rangers are already formatting a second, improved bid. Ibrox officials remain confident that they can secure Cerny on a permanent contract, believing a package can be agreed upon for less than £8.5 million (€10 million).
Finding Common Ground with Besiktas
The rejection of the opening bid likely came as no surprise to the Rangers hierarchy. Besiktas bought Cerny for just under £6 million last summer, and his market value has only grown after he contributed 15 goals and assists in 34 games during his debut season in Turkey.
While Transfermarkt currently values the winger right around that £6 million mark, Rangers will likely need to structure a deal with performance-based add-ons to satisfy the Turkish club. Given his prime age and proven track record in Glasgow, an ultimate package maxing out near £8.5 million is a realistic investment for the club’s leadership.
