Former Rangers winger Andreas Skov Olsen is on the verge of starting a new chapter in Turkey following his disappointing spell at Ibrox.
The Scottish giants monitored the Danish international for several years before finally securing his services on loan during the winter transfer window. However, Skov Olsen struggled to adapt from the moment he arrived. Despite calls from analysts for fans to remain patient, his performances failed to pick up momentum. By the time his temporary spell ended, Rangers had no intention of making the deal permanent.
With parent club Wolfsburg making it clear he is not in their plans, the winger is moving on once again.
According to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, Basaksehir have reached an agreement with Wolfsburg to acquire Skov Olsen on a loan basis. The arrangement also includes an option to purchase him outright if he performs well in the Super Lig.
Skov Olsen has already been invited to Istanbul to undergo his medical tests before finalizing the paperwork.
Now under the management of former Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Nuri Sahin, Basaksehir are looking to build on their fifth-place finish from last season. Adding the Danish attacker represents a strong statement of intent for the Istanbul side.
Rangers have firmly turned the page on the winger. While the Ibrox side remains active in the market for wide players, a return for Skov Olsen was never seriously considered. Even so, the club’s recruitment staff will likely monitor his progress in Turkey to see if he can reignite his career.
