Rangers target has admitted he feels underappreciated at PSV Eindhoven and is open to a move away from the Dutch club.
The Moroccan winger has been strongly linked with a switch to Ibrox. Despite netting a brace against Liverpool and scoring against Napoli in last season’s Champions League, Driouech started only five Eredivisie matches. He made 24 substitute appearances.
In a recent interview, the attacker made little attempt to hide his disappointment at limited starts with the Dutch champions.
“I had many highlights last season, especially in the Champions League, but to be honest, I expected more from the season,” he said. “I would have liked to have played more often. I do think I deserved more games and to have had more appreciation. Three goals and two assists in six Champions League matches is not normal.
“For example, I scored twice against Liverpool, but then I didn’t play against FC Volendam a few days later. That really hit me hard. After that, I played again against Atletico Madrid. I think I did well then, but after that I was back on the sidelines.
“I had to deal with those situations and that hasn’t always been easy, although I think I have always behaved professionally towards the club and given it my all in training. I believe it’s good for a player’s development to get the chance to show what you can do in a few consecutive matches and I don’t think I’ve had that chance, except once at the beginning of the season and right after the winter break. But when the other guys were back, I had to sit on the bench again.
“I want to play no matter what. If that’s here, it’s here. If not, I’ll have to look further. I’ve reached the point where I know I can do it and I really want to show it. If that’s not here, it would have to be somewhere else, but I wouldn’t be afraid to take on a new challenge.”
Driouech has credited veteran Croatian star Ivan Perisic with aiding his development. The pair share a similar position.
“We play in the same position and he is a big name in football history who has achieved a lot. I have learned a lot from him,” he explained. “Often after training, we go for a bit of finishing practice or crosses. He is an example to many of the guys in everything he does to always stay fit and that is admirable.”
