Matthias Jaissle has delivered a stirring message to Newcastle United supporters after watching his side claim a 2-0 victory at Crystal Palace, insisting that success is possible if everyone pulls in the same direction.
The head coach arrived at Selhurst Park under mounting pressure. Newcastle had opened the campaign with four wins, two draws and just one defeat before the international break, but returned to action with two consecutive losses. The trip to South London therefore carried considerable significance.
The first half proved a genuine battle. Difficult weather conditions played into Crystal Palace’s hands, and Newcastle were forced to dig deep simply to stay level. The second half told a very different story. United seized control and effectively won the match inside fifteen minutes, scoring two excellent team goals through William Osula and Harvey Barnes. Joe Willock came agonisingly close to adding a third, only to be denied by a tight VAR offside call.
From there, Jaissle’s side managed the game well, dropping off slightly in the final twenty minutes or so to protect their advantage and see out the win.
Speaking after the match, the Newcastle boss explained his approach, having made five changes to the starting line-up: “Today we went for more experience and leadership skills. It was a tough game, especially in the first half, but the second half was much better and we threatened the opposition more.”

He then made a bold declaration about the season ahead: “If we are all together, this journey can be successful.”
Jaissle went on to discuss the contrast between the two halves in greater detail, highlighting the intensity his players showed without the ball and the improvement in their attacking purpose after the interval. He also praised the collective willingness to defend and secure a clean sheet, describing the result as thoroughly deserved.
Asked about Osula, who made his first start since the opening day of the season, the head coach was full of praise. He noted that the forward had been out for a long time and is now improving physically, describing him as a player with huge potential. Jaissle was quick to stress that the performance was a team effort, with everybody digging in around him.
He added that Newcastle must identify themselves as a unit capable of overcoming setbacks, exactly as they did at Selhurst Park. Success, he argued, does not come from individual players alone. It requires teammates, staff, coaches and supporters all working together.
The statistics painted a picture of a match that was far from straightforward. Palace enjoyed 52 percent possession and registered seventeen shots to Newcastle’s ten, though only four of those were on target compared to two for the visitors. The hosts also won seven corners to Newcastle’s four and had thirty-two touches in the opposition box against nineteen. Ultimately, though, the only numbers that mattered were the two goals and the clean sheet.
Newcastle now move forward with renewed momentum, and their head coach believes the togetherness on display at Selhurst Park can drive the club towards a successful season.
