Brendan Rodgers confirms ‘brilliant’ ally has left Leicester City for Celtic

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Leicester City analyst Jack Lyons is back at Celtic.

Rodgers originally brought Lyons in from Celtic in the summer of 2019 after the pair worked together during the Northern Irishman’s first spell in Glasgow. Lyons was responsible for post-match analysis at Leicester and was publicly praised by former midfielder James Maddison.

When Rodgers returned to Celtic earlier this year after leaving Leicester in April, it was confirmed that performance guru Glen Driscoll had left Leicester to join him. Rodgers has now confirmed that a second member of staff has followed him north.

Speaking about his coaching staff at Celtic, he praised his current coaching staff, adding to The Scotsman: “And of course Jack Lyons. I brought Jack in as a young, talented, brilliantly analytical coach. He can analyze and communicate that to the players.”

In January 2021, Maddison told Sky Sports: “(I) worked on my game, improved. I remember a game we played against Sheffield United at the start of the season, I always watch the games and Jamie Carragher said in the commentary that ‘James Maddison needs to improve his stats if he wants to compete for a place in England and make a name for himself’.”

The coach, Jack, the analyst and I sat down together; Jack will be glad I mentioned it. We sat down and discussed where he could score more goals.

“He should play a bit further back, today he was number 8, little things like getting into the box, getting the ball over the line. And he can almost smell where the ball is going to end up. That’s not easy.
