Former Premier League chief executive Keith Wyness has boldly stated that Brendan Rodgers’ time at Celtic is up and that he is hanging on by a thread.
Rodgers, who controversially departed for Leicester City in 2019 before returning to Celtic in the summer, has faced challenges in his second stint at the club. As Rangers lead the Premiership title race with nine games remaining and scrutiny mounts over transfer dealings, Rodgers finds himself under increasing pressure.
Criticism of Rodgers’ tactics has also surfaced, prompting Wyness to predict that the Celtic manager will be replaced within the next couple of years, regardless of a potential league victory this season. Wyness has launched a scathing attack on the 51-year-old, suggesting that failure to secure the title would result in Rodgers being ousted this summer.
In a no-holds-barred interview with Football Insider, Wyness remarked, “I anticipate a managerial change come the offseason. I question whether Rodgers was the right choice for the job. The team’s performance on the field has been lackluster. Falling short in crucial matches has been a recurring theme. In Scotland, if you’re not first, you might as well be last – and addressing footballing matters should be the top priority to turn things around.
Rodgers knew what he was getting into, given his vast experience in management. His initial allure has worn off, and he is now treading on thin ice. Recovering from this rocky start will be an arduous task. Even if he clinches the league title, his tenure could be short-lived, lasting only a year or two before his inevitable departure.”
