St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson has strongly denounced the reported mistreatment of Gallagher Lennon as “completely unacceptable,” emphasizing that the spotlight should remain on the young player’s football skills.
Recent reports have surfaced suggesting that the 18-year-old midfielder, currently playing on loan at Dumbarton, was subjected to deplorable verbal attacks allegedly referencing violent threats received by his father, former Celtic manager Neil Lennon. The situation, believed to have unfolded during a match against East Fife in Methil, prompted his mother, Irene, to report the disturbing comments, supposedly coming from the Dumbarton supporters’ section.
In response to the incident, Dumbarton promptly issued a supportive statement, and now Stephen Robinson has expressed his frustration while addressing the topic during a pre-match press conference leading up to St Mirren’s upcoming game against Kilmarnock. “This behavior is unacceptable,” Robinson asserted. “I’ve spoken with Gallagher, and he will have our full support as always. I’ve also reached out to his family to share my thoughts. Gallagher’s accomplishments, such as leading the Northern Ireland U19s and his stellar performances for Dumbarton, should be the focus of our conversations. The club has handled the situation admirably. I would much rather highlight his talent as a young player than divert attention to anything else.”
Furthermore, Dumbarton, currently occupying the fourth spot in League Two, issued a statement on Wednesday reiterating their commitment to investigating the incident thoroughly.
