Celtic has once again faced the ire of UEFA, being fined 29,000 euros (£25,224) for incidents related to their supporters during last month’s Champions League fixture at home against Atletico Madrid.

On a night when fans disregarded the club’s appeals not to bring flags or banners relating to the Middle East conflict, the Hoops were penalized 17,500 euros (£15,222) for displaying “a provocative message of an offensive nature.”

Furthermore, Celtic incurred fines of 8,000 euros (£6,960) for their supporters blocking public passageways and 3,500 euros (£3,044) for the use of fireworks.

Atletico Madrid also faced consequences for matters surrounding the 2-2 draw in Glasgow on October 25. The Spanish club was fined 3,000 euros (£2,610) for the lighting of fireworks and received a warning for the “improper conduct of the team.”

This marks the third instance in three Champions League matches this season that Celtic has been subjected to a financial penalty. Initially, the Parkhead club was fined 23,400 euros after fans ignited fireworks in the stands before their group opener against Feyenoord in Rotterdam. Subsequently, following their second home match against Lazio, they had to pay 20,000 euros for offensive banners as well as 3,500 euros for the use of fireworks among their supporters.

As a result, the total cost for the club’s Champions League campaign so far has amounted to 75,900 euros (£66,000).

Amid ongoing disputes and flashpoints with fans’ group the Green Brigade, Celtic has informed supporters traveling to Rome for the upcoming Champions League match against Lazio that all flags, banners, and drums must be pre-approved by the Italian club. A message shared on social media by Celtic’s supporter liaison officer John Paul Taylor on Tuesday emphasized the need for pre-approval for flags, banners, and drums ahead of Tuesday’s match.
