Former Category 1 Referees Des Roache and Steve Conroy expressed their disapproval of the SFA’s decision on their podcast and on social media. They argued that while clubs shouldn’t have the power to influence referee appointments, the SFA could have shown better judgment by appointing a different official for the game, particularly before resolving Rodgers’ case.

In a tweet, they stated, “The SFA isn’t doing any favors for themselves or their referees. While clubs shouldn’t dictate who officiates their matches, it would have been prudent to assign someone else before the disciplinary process involving Rodgers was finalized. This appointment comes across as arrogant, distasteful, and disrespectful to all parties involved.”
