However, Sutton also suggested that given the tumultuous circumstances Everton faced this season—such as a points deduction and looming uncertainty—it’s unlikely any other manager would have fared much better.
Despite the setbacks and challenges Everton encountered, Sutton remains confident that the club will avoid relegation, emphasizing that their Premier League survival is paramount. He stressed the importance for Everton to approach the next season with minimal stress after enduring a trying period this year.
Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast, Sutton remarked, “While much blame can be placed on Sean Dyche for the team’s performances this season, it’s undeniable that Everton have weathered a storm of turbulence on and off the field. Regardless, they should secure their place in the Premier League.”
Acknowledging the difficulties faced by Dyche and the team, Sutton defended the manager’s position, stating, “The season has been challenging in terms of on-field results and off-field issues. While the winless streak is a concern, given their circumstances, avoiding relegation is the primary objective for Everton.”
Although Sutton is optimistic about Everton’s survival prospects, fan confidence is waning due to the extended winless run and heightened relegation fears at Goodison Park. With only a six-point gap separating several teams at the bottom of the table, the relegation battle is intensifying, particularly after a resurgent Nottingham Forest’s recent successes.
