Barry Ferguson Urges Philippe Clement to Drop Two Rangers Key Players in Starting XI against Celtic for the Big Clash!

April 5, 2024

Barry Ferguson has outlined his preferred adjustments for Rangers manager Philippe Clement to make to the starting lineup ahead of the upcoming Old Firm derby against Celtic at Ibrox on 7 April.

Ferguson is eager to see Ridvan Yilmaz and Dujon Sterling included in the starting eleven, potentially replacing Borna Barisic and Scott Wright if they are fully recovered and match-fit.

Yilmaz had suffered an injury while on international duty with Turkey, causing him to miss the recent victory over Hibernian, during which Sterling made a significant impact by coming off the bench and assisting a crucial goal.

In his analysis for the Daily Record, Ferguson laid out his ideal lineup for the derby clash: “I’ve already sorted out my starting lineup for Sunday, assuming everyone is fit and ready. Jack Butland in goal, James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, John Souttar, and Ridvan Yilmaz in defense. In midfield, John Lundstram and Mohamed Diomande, with Dujon Sterling, Todd Cantwell, and Fabio Silva supporting Cyriel Dessers up front, who might just shine this weekend after his hard work to win over the fans.”

Ferguson emphasized the potential impact that Yilmaz and Sterling could have if they were to start the game. Both players bring unique qualities that could prove essential in a high-stakes contest like the Old Firm derby, which might have significant implications for the title race.

Yilmaz, at 22, has impressively secured a regular spot as the team’s left-back over the experienced Barisic this season. Sterling, on the other hand, has showcased his versatility since arriving in Scotland, being deployed in various positions across the pitch.

With Sterling’s recent contributions from the right wing and his defensive solidity along with attacking flair, Ferguson believes his inclusion in the lineup could be pivotal. Sterling’s ability to impact both defensively and offensively was evident in his goal against Benfica in the Europa League.

Should Yilmaz and Sterling be deemed fit to start by Clement for the clash against Celtic, it could significantly improve Rangers’ prospects for a crucial victory that may define their season.
