Sheffield United set to capitalize on Coventry City fan-favorite after demotion!

Former Coventry City fan-favorite Gustavo Hamer might be eyeing a transfer just a year after joining Sheffield United, who faced relegation from the Premier League.

The Brazilian-Dutch midfielder made a move to the Blades for £15 million last summer, seeking to advance his career after Coventry’s bid for promotion to the Championship fell short in the play-off final against Luton.

Despite having a year left on his contract at Bramall Lane, the 26-year-old expressed his desire to depart, prompting the club to offload him. Hamer, who was originally signed for £1.5 million from PEC Zwolle, impressed over three seasons at Coventry.

Reports suggest that Sheffield United are looking to recoup their investment in the player, with speculations indicating they are willing to entertain offers for Hamer, potentially around the £15 million mark. Journalist Alan Nixon disclosed that the club’s decision-makers are prepared to offload the Dutch midfielder merely a year after his acquisition.

Hamer notably made significant contributions in the Premier League, registering the most goal involvements in the Blades squad with four goals and six assists. However, with manager Chris Wilder planning a squad revamp ahead of Championship football, the dynamic midfielder could be sold to facilitate reinforcements in various positions.

Amusingly, Mark Robins remarked last week that Hamer seems to miss Coventry, cheekily pointing out that the player has visited the CBS Arena more frequently than he has been present at Bramall Lane this season.
