Rangers officials have expressed outrage and are demanding action following yet another incident in which James Tavernier was subjected to objects thrown at him, narrowly avoiding a serious injury.
During the heated 2-1 derby defeat at Celtic Park, Tavernier was targeted with projectiles as he was about to take a corner towards the end of the crucial Scottish Premiership clash.
Referee Willie Collum intervened to clear the items off the pitch after stopping play momentarily to address the situation with Tavernier.
In the aftermath of the match, Rangers have called on the authorities to take stern action, emphasizing their worries that their captain narrowly escaped a potential severe injury during the game.
A spokesperson for Rangers conveyed their frustration, stating, “Once again at Parkhead, a Rangers player was put in harm’s way with objects thrown at him, and fortunately, he wasn’t seriously hurt. We have raised this issue with Celtic and expect them to cooperate with Police Scotland in their investigations which are currently underway.”
Police Scotland has acknowledged the incident, confirming that they are investigating the items thrown at the match held in Parkhead on Saturday, May 11, 2024.
