The midfielder delivered a stellar performance, earning the man of the match title, as he propelled the Light Blues to a 5-2 victory in their second-to-last league fixture of the season. Cantwell was reinstated in the starting lineup following a surprising benching in the previous weekend’s tough loss to Old Firm rivals at Parkhead. His resilient comeback helped delay Celtic’s march to the championship for at least another day.
With Brendan Rodgers’ team needing just a point from their last two league matches to secure a three-in-a-row triumph, Cantwell emphasized the urgency for Rangers to return to their winning form. However, the despondent midfielder brushed off any praise for his fortuitous yet magnificent goal at Ibrox.
When questioned about the vital turnaround from a 2-0 deficit, Cantwell remarked, “It was necessary. We conceded two cheap goals in the first half, so we needed to respond for the supporters.”
Regarding his goal that began as a cross but ended as a shot, Cantwell tersely stated, “I’m not interested in discussing that, to be frank.
