The deadlock of the first leg at Carrow Road was swiftly broken by the hosts, with Ilia Gruev’s early free-kick catching Norwich off guard and igniting the atmosphere at Elland Road.
Just moments later, Wilfried Gnonto’s pinpoint cross met the head of Joel Piroe, punishing Angus Gunn’s risky decision-making to double Leeds’ advantage to 2-0.
Georginio Rutter then delivered a stunning strike off the crossbar in the 40th minute, extending the lead to 3-0 before the halftime whistle blew.
Crysencio Summerville sealed the deal by converting Junior Firpo’s delivery in the 68th minute, securing Leeds’ place at Wembley with a comfortable victory.
This result marks Ipswich’s ascendance to a higher league than Norwich for the first time since 2009/10, as the Canaries face the prospect of missing out on the East Anglian derby next season with Ipswich now in the Premier League.
Having finished the regular season in third place with 90 points, Leeds will head to Wembley on May 26th to battle either Southampton or West Brom for promotion to the top flight. Southampton and West Brom will lock horns in the second leg of their semi-final tie, following a goalless stalemate in the first leg.
