Dundee is now facing the responsibility of covering the hotel and travel expenses for Rangers as a result of their twice-postponed Premiership clash from last season, following an SPFL ruling that favored the Ibrox club.

Originally scheduled to play at Dens Park on March 17, the match was first called off due to heavy rainfall causing the pitch to be waterlogged. A second attempt on April 10 suffered a similar fate, leading to frustration for both teams.

Ultimately, the game took place on April 17 and ended in a goalless draw, significantly affecting Rangers’ title aspirations. The Gers were vocal about their displeasure over the postponements, attributing them to “negligence and unprofessionalism.” Consequently, they sought reimbursement from Dundee for the incurred travel and accommodation expenses.

The club from Glasgow had opted to stay overnight in St Andrews before the originally scheduled matches at Dens Park. This decision was influenced by a previous incident where traffic on the Tay Road Bridge delayed their arrival, resulting in a postponed kickoff.

Despite Dundee’s refusal to cover the costs, Rangers pursued the matter with the SPFL, leading to a ruling in their favor. This recent decision adds to Dundee’s financial burden, as they have faced unfavorable outcomes in multiple SPFL hearings this week.

In addition to the cost of reimbursing Rangers, Dundee has also had to address a fine of £186,000 — £120,000 of which was suspended — for five postponements last season. Furthermore, the club was required to pay St Johnstone £15,000 for preparing McDiarmid Park as an alternative venue in case Dens Park was unsuitable for hosting the rescheduled clash against Rangers.

To compound their financial woes, Dundee has initiated significant repairs on their pitch to avoid similar issues in the upcoming season. The cost of this renovation exceeds six figures, surpassing the total sum of fines imposed by the SPFL.
