Chris Sutton unleashes scathing tirade on potential Fraser Forster return to Celtic as Spurs stance becomes clear

June 8, 2024

Chris Sutton firmly believes that Fraser Forster has what it takes to step into Joe Hart’s shoes as Celtic’s main goalkeeper without a doubt. The Celtic faithful have been buzzing about Forster, especially with reports suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur is ready to part ways with him soon.

Having made 236 appearances for Celtic across two stints, Forster has already left a mark with his reliable performances between the posts. As Hart bids goodbye to professional football, Celtic faces a critical need to fill the goalkeeping position, and many see Forster as a dependable choice.

Sutton stands by the idea of Forster returning to Celtic for the third time, considering the goalkeeper’s positive experiences with the club in the past. However, the financial aspects, such as his remaining year on a lucrative deal with Spurs, could complicate matters.

While Forster’s playing style may not align perfectly with Celtic’s possession-based approach under Rodgers, his commanding presence makes him a suitable successor to Hart. Switching gears slightly in transfer strategies might be necessary for Celtic to strengthen their Champions League ambitions.

Though it seems unlikely that Forster will wear the Celtic colors again, the club is actively exploring other options, with Sparta Prague’s Peter Vindahl Jensen emerging as a potential candidate. While Forster may not be in the immediate plans, the focus remains on finding a strong replacement to continue the legacy left by Hart.
