Philippe Clement is well aware that to bring in his preferred transfer targets to Glasgow Rangers this summer, he will need to offload several key first-team players.

However, this task may prove challenging, especially given the interest in a player who spent the second half of last season on loan in the Netherlands – Sam Lammers.

Speculation abounds that Lammers, who excelled at FC Utrecht with 11 goals in just 20 matches last season, may not be returning to Rangers permanently. Reports suggest that Twente is eyeing a move to secure the former Atalanta forward’s services to strengthen their squad.

Rangers are reportedly seeking a transfer fee of around £2.5m for Lammers, indicating a loss of about £500k from their initial £3m investment. Moving on from the 26-year-old this summer seems to be the most beneficial move for both parties, allowing Lammers to continue his fine form while affording Clement the opportunity to secure a more suitable replacement.

Last summer, Rangers, under Michael Beale, aimed to bolster their attacking options after losing key players like Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos. Lammers was brought in, but his stint at Ibrox quickly soured.

The Dutch forward’s high wages compared to his limited on-field impact raised eyebrows. While Lammers struggled to find the net, players like Sima and Souttar excelled in their roles. Lammers’ lackluster performance stats further highlight his unsuitability for the Rangers setup.

Despite his struggles at Rangers, Lammers remains a quality player, as evidenced by his successful stint in the Eredivisie. A move away from Ibrox could be the catalyst for him to rediscover his best form elsewhere.
