Derby County Sparks Shockwaves with Controversial Loan of Former Rotherham, Harrogate, and Blackpool Star

June 28, 2024

Derby County is poised to secure a loan deal for Jerry Yates, the forward formerly of Rotherham United and Harrogate Town, from Swansea City, as per reports. Despite originating from Rotherham’s academy, Yates struggled to find his scoring touch at the senior level with the Millers. Nevertheless, he displayed promise during loan spells with Harrogate and Swindon Town.

After his lengthy tenure with Rotherham ended in 2020, Yates transitioned to Blackpool, where he enjoyed three successful years at Bloomfield Road. Yates played a crucial role in the Tangerines’ promotion from League One in 2021. Swansea City acquired him for a reported fee of £2.5m last year, but after a brief spell in Wales, Yates seems prepared for a new challenge, with Derby being his likely destination on loan, as reported by the BBC.

Yates bagged eight league goals in his debut season at Swansea across 43 appearances, finishing joint top scorer alongside Jamal Lowe. If the move to Derby materializes, Yates will reunite with his former Rotherham mentor Paul Warne. The Rams, who recently earned promotion to the Championship under Warne’s guidance, are eager to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
