Talismanic forward James Collins has agreed to a fresh one-year deal with Derby County as they gear up for their return to the Championship. Meanwhile, midfielder Louie Sibley has departed the club.

Collins, who has been a crucial figure for Derby, finalized the extension after negotiations following the expiration of his previous contract. The news of his continued stay at Pride Park was officially revealed on Tuesday.

Expressing his delight, the 33-year-old shared with Rams TV, “I’m thrilled about this. Given last season’s journey and the discussions with Paul Warne, staying was always my preference. The club holds a special place in my heart now. I have a great bond with my teammates, and the training facilities along with the stadium are top-notch. Looking forward, I am eager to see what the upcoming year has in store for us.”

On the other hand, Sibley was presented with an opportunity to extend his tenure with Derby after his contract lapsed last month. However, a club statement confirmed his decision to pursue his career elsewhere.

Having featured in 173 senior games for the Rams and scoring 20 goals since progressing through the academy, the 22-year-old received recognition from the club for his dedicated service. Derby County expressed gratitude to Sibley and wished him the best in his future pursuits.

Collins, a key contributor to Derby’s promotion drive in the previous season, netted 19 goals and was on course for more before a knee injury sidelined him in February. Despite the setback, he made a successful return to score the final goal of the campaign for the Rams.

Reflecting on his commitment to the club, Collins stated, “My desire to stay remained unwavering from the outset. The manager supported my decision, making the process smooth. I am feeling fit and eager for the challenges ahead.”
