The incident led to Mendez-Laing’s appearance in court over the weekend. Reports from Majorcan newspaper Ultima Hora detail the alleged actions of the 32-year-old player, who hails from Birmingham and currently plays for the Guatemala national team. It is claimed that he punched the woman before taking her phone, while his wife was also arrested for reportedly pulling the woman’s hair.

Authorities were able to track down the phone using its geolocation feature, leading them to the couple’s holiday residence. Following the arrest, Mendez-Laing and his wife were released on bail of €300 as the investigation continues. The woman involved, described as British, is said to have triggered the incident by taking unauthorized photos and videos of the couple inside the nightclub.
