Ryan Nyambe attributes his recent contract extension with Derby County to the influence of his family, emphasizing their desire to establish the club as his long-term home.
The talented defender officially committed to a new three-year deal with the Rams last Thursday, a move that reflects Derby’s recognition of his exceptional abilities. Despite initially signing an 18-month contract in December that would have expired next year, Nyambe’s impressive performances convinced the club to secure his services for an extended period. The Namibian player, who joined as a free agent in September, expressed his satisfaction with the decision, highlighting the importance of his family’s input.
“I couldn’t be happier,” Nyambe remarked. “The sense of security it provides for me and my family is significant, especially given the stature of a club like Derby County. The decision to renew was a collective one, not solely mine. Their happiness means everything to me. I strongly believe in the club’s positive trajectory. Ever since I arrived, Derby encapsulates all the essential elements a footballer seeks. The environment here is truly enjoyable, and I wanted to solidify my presence as a permanent fixture.”
Nyambe’s arrival at Derby as a free agent last September proved to be a masterstroke. Amidst his impactful 21 appearances that contributed to the club’s Championship promotion, an unfortunate quad injury halted his season prematurely in February. Following a successful surgery and an intense period of rehabilitation, the Namibian international is eager to resume action as pre-season training resumes.
“I feel robust and reinvigorated,” Nyambe noted. “My recovery journey has been smooth without any setbacks, and I am confident in my physical condition. The upcoming pre-season activities will provide further clarity on my readiness, but I’m feeling fit and ready to compete. Throughout the summer, I dedicated myself to rehabilitation, benefiting from an undisturbed focus. It’s a refreshing change to be back in the routine with the team gearing up for the new season.”
