Don Goodman suggests that Leeds United should seriously consider selling Crysencio Summerville this summer if they receive a £30 million offer for the talented attacker.
Summerville, who was named the Championship Player of the Season for 2023-24, has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs including Brighton, Liverpool, and Newcastle United, according to talkSPORT’s report on June 18th.
While acknowledging Summerville’s significant contribution to Leeds, Goodman believes that selling him for £30 million could benefit the club in the long run. He explained to MOT Leeds News, “As good as he was last season – and he was really good until the final eight games or so – if Leeds can get £30m for him and then spend that wisely, it would be a good deal.”
Goodman suggests that reinvesting the funds from Summerville’s sale into two or three quality additions could strengthen Leeds’ squad depth significantly. He argues that bolstering the squad in this manner could enhance Leeds’ chances of success in the Championship, potentially making it a standout season for the club.
Despite the financial boost from selling Archie Gray to Tottenham, Leeds must remain steadfast in negotiations to ensure they receive fair value for Summerville. Manager Daniel Farke will undoubtedly be keen to retain Summerville after his standout season, but strategic reinvestment could potentially outweigh the loss.
Goodman emphasizes the importance of Leeds making timely decisions in the transfer market, particularly if they plan to reinvest in new players. He also suggests potential targets for Leeds if they decide to sell other key players like Junior Firpo.
