Sheffield Wednesday have had an eventful start to the summer following their successful bid to stay in the Championship.
Initially on course for a swift return to League One after a poor start under Xisco Munoz, the Owls managed an impressive turnaround under Danny Rohl, securing 20th place in the table. Rohl’s new long-term contract, signed in May, has been a significant boost, and he has wasted no time in reshaping the squad.
So far, Sheffield Wednesday have welcomed seven new players: James Beadle, Ben Hamer, Max Lowe, Yan Valery, Svante Ingelsson, Olaf Kobacki, and Jamal Lowe. More signings are expected as the club continues to strengthen.
Key players Liam Palmer, Dominic Iorfa, Barry Bannan, and Josh Windass have committed to new contracts. However, Cameron Dawson and Will Vaulks declined extensions, moving to Rotherham United and Oxford United, respectively. Anthony Musaba
Winger Anthony Musaba, who joined from Monaco last summer, had a challenging start at Hillsborough but significantly improved under Rohl’s guidance. Despite a slow beginning, Musaba became instrumental for the Owls, finishing as their top scorer with eight goals and five assists in 48 appearances.
The arrival of new winger Olaf Kobacki and interest in bringing back Ian Poveda, alongside potential moves for Rangers’ Scott Wright, means Musaba will face competition. However, his strong finish last season makes him a crucial player. Musaba’s debut season has likely attracted attention, but Sheffield Wednesday should retain him, as his value could rise with continued good performances.
Bailey Cadamarteri
Fans had long awaited Bailey Cadamarteri’s chance in the senior team, and he didn’t disappoint when given the opportunity by Rohl in October. The young striker made a significant impact with three goals in four games in December, vital to the Owls’ survival push.
Although his playing time decreased after Ike Ugbo’s loan arrival in January, Cadamarteri remained key, ending the season with five goals and one assist in 25 appearances. His impressive form earned him a call-up to the England U19 squad and has drawn interest from Premier League and Championship clubs.
Cadamarteri signed a long-term contract in December, allowing the club to command a substantial fee if they chose to sell. However, losing one of their brightest prospects would be a significant setback. Rohl is expected to sign at least two more strikers this summer, but Cadamarteri’s potential and future value make him indispensable to Sheffield Wednesday’s plans.
