Cardiff City and Derby County Ignite Fiery Clash with Luton Town for Premier League Wonderkid

July 19, 2024

Cardiff City and Derby County are targeting a loan move for Crystal Palace’s rising star, David Ozoh, according to Darren Witcoop.

Cardiff City is preparing for another season in the Championship after finishing mid-table last season. Joining them in the league are Plymouth Argyle, who narrowly avoided relegation, Derby County, newly promoted from League One, and Luton Town, relegated from the Premier League.

Ozoh, 19, has made a name for himself within Crystal Palace’s youth system. Last season, he featured in 19 games across all competitions and has already made 13 first-team appearances for the Eagles. Interest in the young midfielder has been high throughout the summer. Plymouth Argyle renewed their interest after expressing it in the winter, and Millwall has long been admirers of Ozoh.

Rob Edwards’ Luton Town has also shown sustained interest in Ozoh, but now Derby County and Cardiff City have joined the competition. All these clubs can offer Championship football, and while some may prefer a permanent transfer, a loan move seems more likely for Palace this summer.

The club that can promise the most playing time is likely to secure Ozoh’s services. Luton Town aims to compete at the top end of the division after their relegation, while Plymouth Argyle is expected to fight for survival. Crystal Palace’s decision on Ozoh’s destination will hinge on their development strategy for the youngster.

With the transfer deadline on August 30, clubs are racing to finalize deals before the season starts, though some targets might only become available after the campaign begins. If Crystal Palace doesn’t plan to include Ozoh in their first team this season, there’s no reason to delay his departure.

As more Championship clubs show interest, this transfer saga is one to watch closely.
