John Souttar Destroys Rangers ‘Mayhem’ in Shocking Statement on James Tavernier Transfer Controversy

July 22, 2024

John Souttar believes Rangers shouldn’t panic at the potential departure of captain James Tavernier. The prolific skipper’s nine-year tenure at Ibrox may be nearing an end as Turkish club Trabzonspor prepares a second bid for the defender. Since joining from Wigan in 2015 under Mark Warburton, Tavernier has scored 125 goals for the Light Blues, becoming a key player.

Manager Philippe Clement has acknowledged the need to sell players before making new signings, with Tavernier likely being the first to leave. While his exit would be significant for Rangers supporters, Souttar is confident the team can manage the change. When asked about the transfer speculation, the Scotland defender stated, “I don’t think it’s a disruption at all. It’s part of football. In every transfer window at clubs like this, there are always going to be people linked with moves.

“That’s just part of being at Rangers. It’s going to happen, and it’s crucial that the boys focus on playing football and training every day. Everything else will sort itself out.”
