Sheffield Wednesday continue their search for a new No. 9 despite already signing nine players this transfer window.
The Owls have strengthened their attack with the additions of Jamal Lowe, Charlie McNeill, and Olaf Kobacki, but none of these signings seem to be the seasoned striker they need. Lowe scored nine goals last season but is expected to play out wide, while McNeill has only three senior goals to his name.
The club is keen to re-sign Ike Ugbo, who is also eager to return to Yorkshire. However, they are struggling to agree on a fee for the forward, who is in demand by several clubs.
Wednesday has also renewed their interest in Duncan McGuire this summer after failing to secure him in January. The American recently rejected a new contract with Orlando City, increasing the likelihood of his departure from the MLS.
McGuire Open to Leaving MLS
While there has been little news about his future, McGuire recently suggested he could leave Orlando City. Speaking to the MLS Soccer official website, McGuire said, “I try not to think about the contract talks or transfer talks that much until something real is in front of me. So I kind of just don’t bother and let my agent take care of it. Being in France, a bunch of clubs are going to be here watching, and it’s a big tournament. So there are lots of eyes on us to showcase our skills. It’s obviously a place to show what you’ve got. I think about how everything happens for a reason. So I guess we’ll see what happens after the Olympics, whether I stay in Orlando, which I’d be happy to, or if the opportunity to go somewhere else comes up, I’ll look at the opportunity.”
Should Sheffield Wednesday Sign McGuire or Ike Ugbo?
McGuire has previously attracted interest from clubs like Torino, Blackburn, and Lecce and is likely to draw more attention during the Olympics. With seven goals in 19 MLS games this season, the 23-year-old aims to impress in Paris, potentially increasing his market value.
As Wednesday remain eager to sign Ugbo, their interest in McGuire might be postponed if his price tag rises. Currently valued at £4.2 million by Transfermarkt, McGuire could end up costing more than Ugbo and represents a riskier investment.
