Albion goalkeeper Tom McGill has joined MK Dons on a season-long loan. McGill, who has been with Albion for over a decade, was third choice behind Jason Steele and Bart Verbruggen last season.

McGill expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “It was an easy decision for me after a couple of conversations with the gaffer. I was told I could play with freedom within the team’s framework, and that’s all any player wants to hear. I’m looking forward to having a run of games and contributing to a team that deserves success.”

MK Dons boss Mike Williamson commented, “We demand a lot from our goalkeepers, and Tom will be no exception. He’s a bright, energetic player with the footballing intelligence to excel in our system. Brighton has done an excellent job with his development, and now it’s up to us to help him reach his potential.”

McGill has made 36 Premier League 2 appearances for Albion and has had loan spells at Worthing, Greenwich Borough, Basingstoke Town, and Crawley Town.

Albion technical director David Weir said, “Tom has been part of our first team group for a number of years now, and this is a great opportunity for him to play regularly. We will monitor his progress closely and wish him the best of luck for the season.”

With Verbruggen sidelined by an unspecified injury and set to miss the first two matches of the new Premier League season, Steele and Carl Rushworth – who impressed on loan at Swansea last term – will likely compete for the No. 1 jersey. Verbruggen, who had a standout performance for The Netherlands during Euro 2024, could return for Albion’s third match at Arsenal on August 31.

Albion also has goalkeepers James Beadle on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Kjell Scherpen on loan at Sturm Graz.
