Nathaniel Mendez-Laing has shared his thoughts on one of Derby County’s 2024 summer transfer additions as the club prepares for its return to the Championship.

With the financial backing of owner David Clowes, manager Paul Warne has been actively supported in the transfer market. Among the new arrivals is Swedish goalkeeper Zetterstrom from Djurgardens, who could become the Rams’ seventh signing of the window.

The club has also welcomed Ebou Adams, Kenzo Goudmijn, Ben Osborn, Corey Blackett-Taylor, Kayden Jackson, and Jerry Yates to bolster the squad for the upcoming season. Additionally, David Ozoh joined Derby on a season-long loan from Crystal Palace, marking the club’s sixth summer signing.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing recently commented on Ozoh, who made his debut in a 4-0 defeat to Chesterfield. The 19-year-old midfielder, previously praised as ‘gifted’ by Patrick Vieira, has made a strong first impression at Pride Park.

Speaking to the club’s media, Mendez-Laing praised the new additions, particularly Ozoh. “Some great additions, great characters, some leaders, and I think some great players also. Ozoh has been in for a couple of days now and he looks like a really good signing,” he said. “Everyone’s gelling together. I think you could see on the field against Chesterfield, we’re still learning about each other and trying to adapt. And yes, I’m excited for the season ahead with this group of players.”

Despite the busy summer, Paul Warne still sees room for improvement in the squad. He has identified the need for four more signings: a striker, a number 10, a central defender, and a left-back. Derby has expressed interest in Rangers’ Scott Wright, a versatile attacking midfielder.

As the transfer window progresses, Derby County looks set for a busy end to their summer business, aiming to strengthen the squad further ahead of the new season.
