Club Desperate to Dump Sheffield Wednesday Striker Target in Shocking Summer Shakeup—And It’s Not Who You Think

July 27, 2024

Sheffield Wednesday are still in the market for a striker, with one of their targets expected to be sold this summer.

As pre-season preparations continue ahead of the 2024/25 Championship campaign, manager Danny Rohl is focused on strengthening his squad with a new striker. Despite adding experienced Championship goal scorer Jamal Lowe on a free transfer from Bournemouth, striker options remain limited.

Young forward Bailey Cadamarteri is another option for Rohl, having shown significant development since the German manager took over at Hillsborough last season.

However, there is still room for an additional striker, with Ike Ugbo and Sory Kaba catching Rohl’s eye.

While the search for a striker progresses, Sheffield Wednesday has received encouraging news regarding one of their targets.

Sheffield Wednesday Target Sory Kaba Set to Leave Las Palmas

Sheffield Wednesday has received positive news in their pursuit of former Cardiff City forward Sory Kaba. According to Spanish outlet Canarias, Kaba is expected to leave Las Palmas, potentially joining Sheffield Wednesday in a cut-price deal.

Kaba struggled in La Liga last season, scoring just one goal in 17 league appearances for Las Palmas. However, he has Champions League experience, having started six games for FC Midtjylland against teams like Liverpool, Ajax, and Atalanta.

Should Sheffield Wednesday Prioritize Sory Kaba over Ike Ugbo?

While the delay in securing a new striker could impact Rohl’s pre-season plans, the team still has sufficient options for now.

Rohl is clearly keen on bringing Ike Ugbo back to Hillsborough after his impactful half-season loan spell last year, where he netted seven goals in 18 appearances.

Kaba also has Championship experience, having scored eight goals in 17 appearances for Cardiff City in the latter half of the 2022/23 season.

Although Kaba is a solid option, Ugbo should be the priority due to his proven performance under Rohl. The Canadian international’s success at Hillsborough last season provides the necessary assurance of securing a reliable goal scorer at this level.

Rohl’s preference for Ugbo suggests that bringing the Canadian forward back to Hillsborough would be the most effective move to bolster Sheffield Wednesday’s attacking options for the upcoming season.
