Derby County Desperate for ‘Phenomenal’ Superstar Previously Handpicked by Warne on Loan

July 30, 2024

Derby County’s activity in the transfer market has been vibrant, with Paul Warne making significant additions to his team, particularly in the midfield area. Bringing in players like Kenzo Goudmijn, Ebou Adams, Ben Osborn, and David Ozoh to fortify the engine room, along with striking options Kayden Jackson and Jerry Yates, has bolstered the squad considerably.

While Derby has strengthened its starting lineup, Warne is not content to stop there. He has expressed a desire for three more signings before the season opener against Blackburn Rovers, potentially including another midfielder in the mix.

Reports suggest that Derby County is eyeing Sunderland’s talented midfielder, Elliot Embleton. Despite prioritizing the acquisition of a new goalkeeper and showcasing interest in Jacob Widell Zetterstrom, Warne is still keen on enhancing the midfield setup.

Embleton, who previously had a loan stint at Derby, is now on the Rams’ radar for a permanent move. Although the 25-year-old has faced injury setbacks, Derby sees potential in helping the attacking midfielder revive his career at Pride Park in the Championship.

On the other hand, Sunderland might consider selling Embleton this summer as he faces tough competition for playing time. With his contract expiring in 2025, there is interest in securing his services, but Derby should tread carefully before making a move for him.

The ex-England U-20 player faced setbacks in recent years despite shining at Sunderland. Injuries hindered his growth post a successful League One stint. For Derby’s stability, proven second-tier talents with solid health records are a must. Embleton shows promise for the Championship, yet a loan or sale to a third-tier club seems fitting. To secure their stay, Derby must seek elevated signings over Embleton.
