Ange Postecoglou has advised Tottenham to be proactive in the upcoming January transfer window as they set their sights on the Premier League title.

Tottenham’s revamped recruitment team is gradually taking shape, and there are high expectations for their activity in January, especially if they remain contenders for the league title. Rob Mackenzie will assume the role of chief scout next week, while Johan Lange has already commenced his duties as technical director since Wednesday.

During a press conference, the Australian head coach emphasized the importance of early business in the January window for every club. He believes that securing deals promptly is more beneficial because waiting until the end of January can result in missed opportunities. With Lange on board, Postecoglou anticipates engaging in numerous discussions and eagerly anticipates collaborating with him.

When asked if he desires a budget on par with Chelsea or other top clubs, Postecoglou expressed that excessive spending to acquire the best players has repeatedly proven to be an ineffective solution. He believes that building the right chemistry within the team and squad, with 24 players committed to a unified cause, is paramount. He stresses that obtaining the 24 best players in the world would only lead to unnecessary complications, a challenge he wants to avoid.

Looking at the bigger picture, while Tottenham has strengthened their squad during the past two winter windows, they made a late addition this year with Pedro Porro. Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur also joined on deadline day in January 2022.
