Turkish Super Lig Giants Rumored to Spark Major Sensation by Eyeing Ex-England Star from Humble Luton Town in Earth-Shattering Transfer Move

July 30, 2024

Reports have emerged suggesting that Alanyaspor of the Turkish Super Lig have initiated discussions regarding a potential transfer deal with Andros Townsend, the winger currently playing for Luton.

Townsend, a 33-year-old former England international, joined Kenilworth Road in October 2023 after a period of being clubless following the collapse of his contract negotiation with Burnley. Facing a career crossroads, Townsend, who had stints at Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, and Everton (where he endured a significant injury layoff), found a new opportunity with the Hatters.

During the last season, Townsend made 27 appearances in the Premier League, starting 14 games and contributing with one goal and three assists. His involvement in the squad towards the end of the year saw him start eight matches out of nine, with a reduced starting role in the latter part of the season. In the current pre-season, Townsend’s playtime has been limited, featuring in just a few matches including a win against Ruhk Lviv and a draw with Dundee United, prompting interest from Alanyaspor.

Turkish journalist Reşat Can Özbudak from Sports Digitale mentioned on Twitter that Alanyaspor has commenced formal talks to secure Townsend’s services. The club, led by former Turkey international Fatih Tekke, finished eighth in the previous season with 12 wins in 38 matches. Alanyaspor were runners-up in the Turkish Cup in 2019-20 and secured a Europa League spot the following year, showcasing their ambition to compete at a higher level.
