Luton Town are gearing up for their return to the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League.
After a disappointing 18th-place finish in their solitary season in the top flight, manager Rob Edwards is now focused on guiding the team back to the big leagues in the upcoming 2024/25 season.
Their Championship campaign kicks off on 12 August against Burnley, and the club is looking to strengthen their squad with a few key transfers before the season opener.
Recent acquisitions, Russell Walters and Shandon Baptiste, have bolstered the team after joining from Arsenal and Brentford as free agents. However, Luton is eyeing two more signings to further enhance their squad.
Ben Sheaf has been on Luton’s radar since before their relegation and could provide the necessary quality to push for promotion back to the Premier League. The versatile Coventry City midfielder, aged 26, was a standout performer under Mark Robins and could fill the void left by Ross Barkley’s departure to Aston Villa.
While the fee for Sheaf’s transfer remains uncertain, bringing him on board would signal Luton’s intent to challenge for a top-two finish and could also weaken potential promotion rivals like Coventry.
Meanwhile, Jaidon Anthony, who spent last season on loan at Leeds United, is another target for Luton. The 24-year-old winger, who struggled to make an impact at Bournemouth in the Premier League, is seeking regular playing time to reignite his career.
Anthony’s experience in the Championship, particularly during Bournemouth’s successful 2022 campaign, where he contributed eight goals and six assists, could prove invaluable for Luton’s promotion push. Under Edwards’ guidance, Anthony could rediscover his best form and help propel the team towards their goal of returning to the top flight.
