Blackburn Rovers showcased their superiority over Derby County as the Championship season began.
Derby County, managed by Paul Warne, was left dismayed by the dominant performance of Blackburn Rovers on Friday night. Despite showing glimpses of competitiveness, Derby’s lackluster display didn’t inspire much confidence amongst fans for the upcoming season.
Although Curtis Nelson managed to equalize for Derby, Blackburn quickly retook the lead and surged ahead to a 4-1 victory, with Kane Wilson scoring a late consolation goal.
Though Kenzo Goudmijn impressed for Derby, it wasn’t enough to salvage a poor overall performance that exposed the team’s need for additional quality players.
Journalist Leigh Curtis highlighted the stark difference in quality between the two squads, particularly the impactful substitutions made by Blackburn, including Andi Weimann, a former Derby player who scored against his old club.
The game was a harsh reintroduction to the Championship for Derby, showcasing a significant quality gap that they must urgently address in the transfer market to avoid a challenging season ahead.
