Sheffield Wednesday forward Michael Smith is currently in discussions with Wrexham for a potential transfer to the League One club, as reported by The Star.

Smith showcased his proficiency by scoring the fourth goal for Wednesday in their commanding victory over Plymouth Argyle, coming on for just seven minutes. Despite making 31 appearances in the Championship last season and scoring four goals, he started in only 11 matches. The abundance of striking options at Hillsborough, including Ike Ugbo, who recently made his move permanent, has raised uncertainties regarding Smith’s future with the club. His contract expiring at the end of the season may prompt Wednesday to consider letting him go.

Although Smith had a somewhat mixed season last year, the 32-year-old forward has demonstrated his goal-scoring prowess in League One, tallying 34 goals over the past two seasons with Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday. This impressive track record appears to be attracting Wrexham, especially after their strong start to the season with a win against Wycombe Wanderers.
