Djurgarden’s sporting director, Bosse Andersson, has officially confirmed that goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom is set to join Derby County following an emotional farewell to the Swedish club. Zetterstrom bid adieu to Djurgarden after helping them secure a 3-1 victory over Ilves in the Europa Conference League qualifiers, expressing his gratitude in tears at the final whistle.

Derby County has sealed a £1.4 million deal for the 6ft 6in goalkeeper, ending their extensive search for a shot-stopper and providing a significant boost for head coach Paul Warne ahead of their upcoming match against Middlesbrough. After Djurgarden’s triumph, Andersson disclosed, “We’ve had productive discussions with Derby and timed this move carefully, aligning it with our European journey. With Jacob Rinne in place, Zetterstrom’s transition is swift, aiming for his potential debut this weekend.”

Zetterstrom shared his sentiments on departing Djurgarden, remarking, “It was a poignant moment filled with emotions, reflecting on the fantastic experiences I’ve had. The club holds a special place in my heart, and I cherished my time here immensely. Now, I eagerly anticipate new adventures, particularly fulfilling my dream of playing English football, a milestone I’ve always aspired to achieve.”
