Luton Town has bid farewell to midfielder Louie Watson as both parties agreed to part ways mutually.

Watson, at the age of 23, joined the Hatters in July 2022 during Nathan Jones’ tenure and later earned his Championship debut under current manager Rob Edwards in a victorious match against Huddersfield Town on January 1, 2023. Throughout the season, he played a total of nine games as Luton secured promotion to the Premier League. However, he was loaned out to Charlton Athletic in League One as Luton entered the top-flight competition.

During his time with Charlton, Watson featured 27 times and scored once, but his appearances ceased after February 10. Upon returning to Luton for pre-season matches, he was not chosen for the squad. Edwards recently explained the decision, stating, “Louie will need to seek playing opportunities elsewhere this season. This was a discussion we had from the beginning of pre-season.”

With the transfer deadline expired, Watson is now a free agent looking for a new club. In a statement on the Luton Town website, it was announced, “We have agreed with Louie Watson to terminate his contract by mutual consent. Signed from Derby County in 2022, he appeared nine times in the 22/23 season before his loan spell at Charlton Athletic. We appreciate Louie’s efforts in our promotion to the Premier League and wish him success in his future endeavors.”
