Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder denied making physical contact with Derby County forward Jerry Yates in an incident that saw both managers receive bookings during the Blades’ 1-0 victory. The clash escalated after Paul Warne accused Wilder of pushing Yates while trying to quickly retrieve the ball for a throw-in.

Wilder clarified, stating, “I was simply trying to speed up the game by picking up the ball; there was no intent to harm or touch the player as alleged by Paul. Although I respect him, I don’t have to be his best friend on matchdays. I’m focused on doing what’s best for my team and swiftly getting the ball back into play.”

While reflecting on the match, Wilder expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, especially their game management. Despite a somewhat disjointed display, Sheffield United secured the win with Gustavo Hamer’s impressive free-kick early in the second half. Wilder praised his players for their patience, energy, and the eventual match-winning goal.

Acknowledging Derby’s threat on the counter, Wilder noted the importance of solid game management in securing the victory. Although he wished for a more comfortable lead, the 1-0 result was sufficient, and he commended his team’s resilience and focus as they look ahead to future matches.
