Celtic’s defender, Gustaf Lagerbielke, revealed to Fotbolldirekt that Brendan Rodgers took the initiative to send him on loan during the summer transfer window. Lagerbielke, who arrived at Celtic in August 2023 from IF Elfsborg, had limited playing time in the previous season, featuring in just over 400 minutes across seven league matches.

Although potential loan opportunities arose in the winter market, Celtic initially showed little interest. However, clubs like SC Heerenveen, KV Mechelen, and Lecce expressed their desire to sign the 24-year-old during the summer. Eventually, Lagerbielke decided to join FC Twente on a loan deal.

Reflecting on his loan move, Lagerbielke expressed, “I and the club mutually agreed that a loan spell would benefit both parties, considering my limited playing time at Celtic.” After weighing his options and holding discussions with several clubs, Lagerbielke felt a strong connection with FC Twente, leading him to make the decision to join the Dutch side.

Despite not yet making his debut for FC Twente, Lagerbielke remains optimistic about his chances of regular game time this season. Adapting to a new environment and language, he emphasized his focus on training and integration into the team, staying hopeful for his upcoming opportunities on the pitch.

When asked about his current career stage, Lagerbielke expressed confidence in his abilities, stating, “I feel I am at the peak of my career so far, in terms of physical, tactical, technical, and mental aspects. I am eager to showcase my best performances on the field.”

Lagerbielke’s contract with Celtic, under Brendan Rodgers, extends until 2028.
