In the aftermath of Norwich City’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Derby County, Johannes Hoff Thorup has put forward a compelling case for the implementation of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in the Championship.
A significant controversy arose during Saturday’s match as the Canaries secured a crucial win marred by a referee error. Borja Sainz’s opening goal was allowed to stand despite the ball clearly going out of play. Additionally, Derby’s second goal raised concerns of potential offside interference, sparking further debate on the reliability of referee decisions.
Sainz went on to complete a hat trick, leading Thorup’s team to a hard-fought victory despite Craig Forsyth and Corey Taylor-Blackett’s efforts for Derby.
With ambitions of promotion this season after finishing sixth in the previous campaign, Norwich seeks to address the issue of contentious officiating errors through the introduction of VAR.

The gap to playoff spots narrows to two points as midweek fixtures approach. Facing Leeds United next, Norwich plays at home on Tuesday.
