Swap deal: Tottenham poised to swap out 28-year-old in a transfer to acquire a “special” new defender for Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham Hotspur, reeling from recent Premier League setbacks that highlighted squad deficiencies, may need to pivot to the January transfer window for solutions. While the team displayed promise under Ange Postecoglou early in the season, a 4-1 loss to Chelsea signaled the onset of concerns.

The latest injury to Cristian Romero has left North London particularly vulnerable in the heart of their defense, prompting them to consider securing a specific star transfer. Reports indicate that Tottenham is prepared to make significant concessions to facilitate this potential deal.

Postecoglou recently articulated the team’s urgency for a January acquisition, emphasizing the need for a center-back, stating, “We let Davinson Sanchez go after the window closed. We were aware it was a risk; we couldn’t secure the additional center-back we were pursuing, and it was manageable initially. However, with the loss of Micky van de Ven and Eric Dier’s ongoing issues, we are left without another center-back. We can’t afford to take that risk again, so that’s a priority for us in January. But it’s crucial to find the right fit, not just adding another player.”

According to Tottenham Hotspur News, Spurs are willing to engage in a swap deal, potentially involving Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, to secure Fulham center-back Tosin Adarabioyo in January. Adarabioyo, with six months remaining on his contract at Craven Cottage, could be swayed to make an early departure should Fulham accept Spurs’ proposal, which includes Hojbjerg and cash.

In the absence of Romero and Van de Ven, Spurs are left with only one senior center-back in Ben Davies, traditionally a left-back. Despite ongoing negotiations for Radu Dragusin, another option is deemed necessary, underscoring the significance of pursuing Adarabioyo this month.

Fulham manager Marco Silva has expressed high regard for Adarabioyo, describing him as a pivotal figure within the squad, highlighting his leadership and on-field contributions. The central defender’s significance to Fulham is evident, and his skill set aligns with the style of play desired, rendering him an essential target for Tottenham in the current transfer window.
