After much soul searching, Gary Dicker has made peace with the difficult decision to depart as he heads into a new and exciting chapter in the MLS with Charlotte FC.
Dicker is rejoining the Albion academy after a successful three-year spell in which he has well over 150 appearances for the Seagulls into his new role. The 38-year-old is eager to take the next step in his coaching career and believes there’s a unique and exciting route to being able to do so within MLS.
Of his decision, Dicker said: “I took inspiration from the odd success story, Graham Potter and whatnot. “I can see my life going the same way, deviating from normality to achieve what I want. The opportunity in America, against the backdrop of a fantastic growth story of the league itself, is also an exciting opportunity for me personally to develop,” Dicker told Albion’s website.
In light of this unforeseen chance, Dicker contemplated the consequences. He accepts the fact that his career path is not going to be straight and realize that he may not be offered a top position right away. Dicker wants to coach in the MLS and eyes a top managerial role inspired by younger influences like Fabian Hurzeler at Brighton — he joined last summer from St Pauli at 31.
Talking about his ambitions, Dicker said: “My aim is to coach at MLS level as a first team manager. An area that fosters up-and-coming talent like our coach does here. Dicker, looking to the success of those before him says he will be sure to make an impact no matter where he goes and tries to emulate what his teammates have accomplished.
It is a huge upheaval not just for Dicker, but tied to Brighton and his family. “This is where my wife and her whole family are from. All my kids grew up in this house. Dicker then shared, “Their endless support and sacrifices are everything to me.”
For all the fact that Dicker savours his departure, though never ever is it a farewell — this he points out makes clear, such as on where Brighton has merchanised his lifestyle. He remains hopeful and positive about someday returning.
