On the other hand, for James Beadle it was England U21s and there were also debut call-ups for Gabriel Otegbayo with the Republic of Ireland U21s – a first at this level for the budding academy defender.
In recent days, Shea Charles was in the thick of it as Northern Ireland beat Belarus and again when they played out a draw with Luxembourg on Monday. In the 2-0 loss to Belarus, his teammate Pierce Charles finished with a clean sheet but not in a 2-2 draw against Luxembourg.
However that brought the biggest challenge for Jamaica player Di’Shon Bernard. It might slip under the radar, but for Bernard aside from an own goal he had a nightmare at the back, and his side lost to the USA 4-0 (other matches). Sofascore scored him a 5.9 — joint lowest of any outfield player on either side
At least in terms of on-the-ball quality, Bernard was one of Jamaica’s most prominent players in touches and accurate passes after the delay. However, the game with USA proved to be a nightmare for the defender – and an illustration of the highs and lows which accompany international professional sport.
