One player linked with Celtic is on course to complete a record breaking move to Major League Soccer, while a Rangers prospect will remain in Scottish League One for the rest of the season.
Wilfried Nancy has moved quickly to shape Celtic in his own image. His attacking ideas are already evident on the pitch and the January transfer window has given him the chance to start reshaping the squad. Celtic have secured Bournemouth right back Julian Araujo on loan and have lodged a bid for Ivorian winger Jocelin Ta Bi. However, another striker on their shortlist now appears bound for the United States.
Across the city, Rangers boss Danny Rohl was thrilled with his team’s Old Firm win at Celtic Park, even though a sluggish first half highlighted areas that still need improvement. Rangers have already seen offers turned down for Josh Windass of Wrexham and AEK Athens defender James Penrice. While reinforcements are being sought, the club have decided to keep one of their young players out on loan after an encouraging spell in League One.
Munteanu close to DC United switch
Fox Sports report that CFR Cluj forward Louis Munteanu is set to become DC United’s most expensive signing. The MLS side are believed to have beaten Celtic to the 23 year old’s signature and are prepared to spend around 10 million dollars to land him.
Munteanu is expected to fill the void left by Christian Benteke, who recently ended his spell in the United States to join Al Wahda in the UAE Pro League. Celtic attempted to sign the Romanian striker in the summer with a bid of roughly £6.9 million, but Cluj were not persuaded. Munteanu went on to score 23 goals in 35 league games last season.
Burnside to stay at Alloa
Rangers have also confirmed that Callum Burnside will remain at Alloa Athletic until the end of the campaign. The Northern Irish winger’s loan has been extended after a productive start to his time with the Wasps.
Alloa announced that Burnside has become an important part of the side, starting 12 matches and contributing two goals and two assists. His pace and creativity have impressed, and the extension will allow the 20 year old to continue his development as the season reaches its decisive phase.
