Leicester City are set to see striker Julian Carranza head back to Feyenoord before completing a move to Mexico, according to reports from Mexican outlet Super Deportivo.
The Foxes have endured a difficult campaign since dropping out of the Premier League and currently sit 12th in the Championship as 2026 approaches, four points outside the play-off positions. Considering the upheaval over the summer, their struggles have not come as a huge surprise.
Martí Cifuentes was appointed as head coach but oversaw the departure of several key players, with replacements not arriving until the final day of the transfer window. One of those late additions was Carranza, who joined on loan from Feyenoord. The Argentine forward, however, has been unable to make his mark at the King Power Stadium and now looks set to depart early.
Carranza’s loan is expected to be cut short, with a move to Mexican side Necaxa already lined up. He is reportedly close to agreeing a four-year contract once the January window opens.
Leicester did hold an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season, but that clause was always unlikely to be triggered. Carranza has not featured for the club in close to two months and has failed to score in nine appearances.
The 24-year-old began his career in Argentina with Banfield, where his form earned him a move to Inter Miami in 2019. His time in Major League Soccer failed to live up to expectations, leading to a loan switch to Philadelphia Union in 2021. That move proved to be a turning point, as Carranza became a popular figure with the club’s supporters and secured a permanent deal.
Between 2022 and 2024, he enjoyed a productive spell in front of goal with Philadelphia, which caught the attention of Feyenoord. His move to the Netherlands last summer was meant to push his career forward, but regular starts were hard to come by. He ended the season with five goals and one assist from 30 appearances, often praised for his work rate rather than his end product.
The loan move to Leicester was intended to offer a clean slate, yet it has not worked out, and another reset now appears likely in North America.
Assessing Leicester’s deadline day signings
Carranza was one of three players to arrive at Leicester on the final day of the transfer window. Aaron Ramsey joined on loan from Burnley, while Jordan James arrived from Rennes.
Of the trio, only James has made a significant impact. The former Birmingham City midfielder has arguably been Leicester’s standout performer this season, scoring seven goals and delivering consistent displays in recent weeks.
Ramsey’s spell, like Carranza’s, has been disappointing. He has managed just 168 minutes of action across the campaign and has struggled to influence proceedings.
