Crystal Palace are reportedly closing in on another January addition for Oliver Glasner, with talks said to be progressing as Steve Parish looks to strengthen the squad amid uncertainty over the manager’s long-term future.

Palace push on in the transfer market after difficult run

After an impressive start to the 2025/26 campaign, capped by their FA Cup success last May, Palace’s form has dipped since the festive period. Glasner’s side have now gone nine matches without a win in all competitions, with their last success coming against Shelbourne in the Conference League in early December.

Heavy defeats to Manchester City, Leeds and Newcastle, followed by a surprise FA Cup third-round elimination at the hands of non-league Macclesfield Town, have dented confidence and seen Palace slide down the Premier League table.

The downturn has not come without context. Palace have been hit by a significant injury crisis, while Ismaila Sarr’s departure for the Africa Cup of Nations and several other first-team absences have stretched an already thin squad.

There is also uncertainty surrounding Marc Guehi, with strong interest in the defender ahead of the final months of his contract. Manchester City are understood to be pushing for a deal this month, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Pep Guardiola’s side believe an agreement can be reached before the window shuts.

Glasner’s own future adds another layer of intrigue, with his contract expiring later this year. That has led to suggestions this could be his final season at Selhurst Park, despite the historic achievements he has already delivered.

Planning ahead, Parish has shown a willingness to invest by completing a £35 million move for Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson earlier this month. According to GiveMeSport journalist Ben Jacobs, Palace are now lining up another signing to follow Johnson through the door.

Advanced talks underway for Angers forward Sidiki Cherif

Jacobs has reported on X that Crystal Palace are in advanced discussions with Angers over the transfer of highly rated teenager Sidiki Cherif.

The 19-year-old French youth international, who is also eligible to represent Guinea, has scored four goals in 17 Ligue 1 appearances this season. His tally includes goals against the likes of Marseille and Monaco, highlighting his ability to deliver on big occasions.

Cherif has featured both through the middle and on the left wing this season, a versatility that has caught Palace’s attention as they look to bolster their attacking options. Alongside Prosper Peter, Cherif has played a key role in helping Angers pull clear of relegation trouble after the club faced financial difficulties last summer.

While Angers are braced for interest in their standout youngster, they are reportedly holding firm on their valuation. The Ligue 1 side are said to be seeking a club-record fee of around £22 million.

Journalist Fabrice Hawkins, who first broke the story, has also stated that Cherif has already agreed personal terms with Palace, moving the deal a step closer to completion.
