Celtic have opened discussions in an attempt to beat rivals Rangers to the signing of DAC Dunajska Streda winger Damir Redzic this month, according to TEAMtalk.
The Hoops have endured a challenging season so far and are already into their fourth managerial spell of the campaign, with Brendan Rodgers stepping down and Wilfried Nancy dismissed after only eight matches, while Martin O’Neill has returned at intervals to steady the ship.
However, the Scottish champions are eager to bolster their squad during the January window to improve their prospects of securing another league title, and bringing in a new attacking option is believed to be a key objective.
Celtic Make Contact for Redzic Ahead of Rangers
Redzic, who has been likened to Arjen Robben and labelled a ‘massive talent’ with a ‘powerful’ shot, has become a major talking point at Parkhead after Celtic’s pursuit of Jocelin Ta Bi fell through and was subsequently hijacked by Premier League side Sunderland.
Now, according to reports, Celtic have made initial contact with the Hungarian’s Slovakian club to establish what would be required to complete a transfer, including the potential fee and the player’s personal terms.
It is understood that Celtic are not alone in their admiration for the 22-year-old, with one of their strongest challengers for his signature being fierce rivals Rangers, who are also monitoring the winger closely.
Rangers have yet to make a formal approach but have continued to track his situation, and it is believed that any concrete move from Celtic or another club could prompt them to accelerate their interest to avoid missing out.
Celtic Desperate for Attacking Reinforcements
The current squad in Glasgow is widely regarded as insufficiently competitive, and the club are fully aware of that. O’Neill has openly stated that he requires additions before the transfer deadline at the end of the month, but progress has been slow, with only defender Julian Araujo joining on loan so far.
Celtic are also targeting a striker, with Chelsea forward David Datro Fofana among the names under consideration, but Redzic would provide speed and a direct threat from wide areas to a team crying out for more attacking quality.
A transfer is expected to cost in the region of £4m, and Celtic may look to delay their move to apply pressure on Dunajska Streda later in the window, though many believe the club should act decisively now rather than risk unnecessary complications.
