Liverpool continue to monitor Marc Guehi’s situation, but Manchester City could yet make a move this month, with Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner acknowledging that a sufficiently large bid may be impossible to refuse.
Guehi is entering the final months of his contract and was close to joining Liverpool in September. That transfer collapsed late on after Palace were unable to secure a replacement in time. Interest has not cooled since, with City now credited as suitors alongside several European clubs positioning themselves for a potential free transfer in the summer.
Liverpool remain in the picture after narrowly missing out before, while Pep Guardiola recently attempted to downplay the likelihood of City spending heavily in January. Glasner, however, has been more open about the realities facing Palace if a major offer arrives.
He pointed to the defender’s contract situation, explaining that there comes a point where financial considerations outweigh sporting ones. Glasner suggested that if the fee crosses a certain level and the player expresses a desire to leave, the club would have little choice but to act. He also admitted he is realistic about the possibility of a huge proposal from City or another elite side and accepted that such circumstances could trigger a sale.
Despite those comments, Glasner has previously taken a more cautious tone when discussing Guehi’s future. Ahead of the window, he described January as an unpredictable period and stressed how quickly situations can change. He added that statements made early in the month can become outdated within days, which is why he prefers not to speak definitively about transfers in public.
With Palace weighing contract realities against on pitch needs, Guehi’s future looks set to remain a major talking point as the window unfolds.
